Here is a brief introduction to our new bishop:
Bishop John S. Bonnici is a Catholic bishop and priest of the Archdiocese of New York who has served the Church as a parish pastor, theologian, and auxiliary bishop. Ordained a priest in 1991, he has extensive pastoral experience in parish ministry, marriage and family life, and theological education. As an auxiliary bishop, he assisted the archbishop in overseeing pastoral and sacramental life while serving as a regional episcopal vicar. He also serves on the U.S. bishops’ Committee on the Protection of Children and Young People and the Subcommittee on the Catechism, reflecting a commitment to accountability, safeguarding, and faithful teaching. He has now been appointed to serve as the Bishop of Rochester.
As catholic Christians, moments like this remind us that the Church is guided not by personalities, but by Christ Himself, who continues to shepherd His people through the successors of the Apostles.
Please join me in praying for Bishop John S. Bonnici, that the Holy Spirit may grant him wisdom, courage, humility, and pastoral charity as he begins his ministry in the Diocese of Rochester.
