“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord" (Isaiah 1:18a)
I know this sounds like a bold claim, but trust me, I wouldn't state it of it weren't true. And it's what gives me confidence in my Faith. "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.” (John 20:29b) Having grown up Christian, I knew Christianity was true, but I had no idea how to back it up. That's what I want to cover in this post. Hopefully it may also help you have confidence in this beautiful Faith God gave us.
The Cosmological Argument
Let's begin with this absurdity and get it out of the way. Existence without out a creator defines logical reasoning. Everything coming out of nothing, or nothing doing anything for that matter, is a logical fallacy. Saying the universe came into existence by random chance is like saying a monkey randomly pounding on a typewriter eventually producing Hamlet. The odds are so astronomically low that it defies logic. From the laws of physics to the delicate balance required for life, everything points to intelligent design, not chaos. Everything in our realm of existence has a beginning.
Contrary to popular belief, the Big Bang theory was developed by Scientist in the late 1920s, early 1930s who was a Christian. Belgian physicist Fr. Georges Lemaรฎtre. In 1931 published a paper in Nature titled "The Beginning of the World from the Point of View of Quantum Theory," Fr. Lemaรฎtre, expanding on Einstein's theory of relativity. He theorized that universe expanded from a single initial quantum, which he called the "primeval atom." Of course people were skeptical at first, including Einstein. He said, “Your calculations are correct, but your physics is abominable.” but later Einstein and other Scientists began to except it and found observational evidence, such as the discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation, supported the concept of an expanding universe originating from a singular point. This would later, on a BBC broadcast be daubed The Big Bang Theory. His work shows that science and theology can be parallels. Faith and Reason can complement each other, and enrich our understanding of the universe. Therefore, a timeless, spaceless, immaterial cause (i.e., God) is necessary.
Other Religions Lack Validity
- Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) in the 5th–6th century B.C. He claimed to have attained enlightenment but never claimed to be divine.
- Muhammad, founder of Islam, was born in Mecca around the year 570. He was a prophet, but not divine. I see no evidence outside of Islam or the Quran.
- While Krishna was a historical figure who lived around 3300 BC claims of being a deity, but no evidence to support this, mainly mythological.
- Wicca, often seen as a modern pagan revival, was popularized in the 20th century by Gerald Gardner, who incorporated elements of ceremonial magic, folklore, and his own interpretations. It has no historical connection to ancient witch cults and is widely acknowledged by scholars to be a modern invention.
Christianity Is Rooted in Evidence
Only Jesus claimed divinity (John 10:30) and proved it through verifiable evidence.
Non-Christian Sources Confirm Jesus' Existence
- Tacitus (Roman historian, Annals c. 116 A.D.): Mentions Christus, who suffered under Pontius Pilate during the reign of Tiberius.
- Josephus (Jewish historian, Antiquities of the Jews, c. 93 A.D.): Refers to Jesus as a wise teacher and the "Christ" who was crucified.
- Suetonius, Pliny the Younger, and Lucian of Samosata: Refer to early Christians and their worship of Christ as divine.
Eyewitness Testimony:
The New Testament includes first-hand accounts (e.g., Gospels of Matthew and John) and direct witness reports recorded within a few decades of the events.
-
Paul’s letters, written ~20 years after the Resurrection, reference key historical facts and eyewitnesses (see 1 Corinthians 15:3–8).
Archaeological: .
- The Pool of Bethesda (John 5) was once doubted but later excavated.
-
The ossuary of Caiaphas, the high priest who condemned Jesus, has been found.
-
Pontius Pilate’s name was discovered engraved on a stone in Caesarea.
Martyrdom of the Apostles:
-
Most apostles were martyred for proclaiming Jesus' resurrection — they had nothing to gain and everything to lose. This supports the sincerity and truth of their testimony. People don’t die for what they know is a lie.
Scientific:
-
A linen cloth believed to be the burial shroud of Jesus, bearing the image of a crucified man.
-
The image is not painted or dyed — it's a superficial discoloration of the top fibers, unreplicated by modern science.
-
The wounds match Roman crucifixion methods: nail marks in the wrists (not palms), scourge marks consistent with a Roman flagrum, and a wound in the side.
-
The bloodstains are real human blood, type AB, with a high level of bilirubin — indicating trauma before death.
-
3D information is encoded in the image, allowing computers to render a lifelike 3D model.
988 carbon dating placed it in the Middle Ages, but newer studies suggest that sample was taken from a repaired section. Updated techniques suggest a 1st-century origin.
-
No known method explains how the image was formed — it may have been created by a burst of radiation, consistent with Resurrection hypotheses.
Eucharistic Miracles (Scientifically Analyzed)
- Examples of consecrated Hosts that physically transformed into human tissue.
- There have been over 100 confirmed
- Most famous: Lanciano, Italy (8th century) — still preserved today.
- Host became heart muscle tissue (myocardium), confirmed by modern analysis. Blood type: AB — same as the Shroud of Turin. Tissue shows signs of being alive at the moment it was sampled, despite being centuries old.
- Other Eucharistic miracles: Buenos Aires (1996), Tixla Mexico (2006) — analyzed by non-Christian scientists, confirmed to be living heart tissue under stress. All tested samples share: human DNA, blood type AB, and are cardiac tissue. Matching a man under torture.
Prophetic Fulfillment:
-
Born of a virgin
There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament that Christians believe were fulfilled by Jesus. Here are some of the most striking examples:
Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14 — “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son...”
Fulfillment: Matthew 1:22–23
- Born in Bethlehem
Fulfillment: Matthew 2:1
- From the line of David
Fulfillment: Luke 3:23–31 (genealogy), Romans 1:3
- Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver
Fulfillment: Matthew 26:15, 27:3–10
Hands and feet pierced (Crucifixion)
Fulfillment: John 20:25–27
Silent before His accusers
Fulfillment: Matthew 27:12–14
- Buried with the rich
Fulfillment: Matthew 27:57–60 (Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb)
Resurrected from the dead
Fulfillment: Acts 2:31, Luke 24
Skepticism:
- Place of birth (Bethlehem)
- Lineage (House of David)
- Manner of death (crucifixion and piercing)
- Betrayal and amount of money
- Soldiers casting lots for His garments
- Burial in a rich man’s tomb
While skeptics suggest Jesus may have tried to fulfill some prophecies, many were outside His control:
- Jesus Himself Pointed to the Prophets
